GINGER THUVAYAL
Ginger thuvayal is in my mom's menu every Sunday. This is a very healthy recipe, ginger being a medicine itself. This thuvayal once a week, ensures great digestion and prevents gastric problems.
Serve it as a main course with hot steaming rice (with ghee or gingely oil) or use it as a side-dish for dosa, idli and even chapati. My favorite is using it as bread spread😋
INGREDIENTS
Ginger - 1/4 cup
Urad Dal - 1 tablespoon
Tamarind - a little (size of a small marble)
Red Chilli - 1
Oil - 1 teaspoon
Salt - To taste
METHOD
Wash, peel and chop ginger into small pieces.
Heat oil in pan, and add urad dal, tamarind and the chilli and saute until the dal is golden brown. Remove from heat.
In the same pan, add the chopped ginger and saute for a couple of seconds.
Remove from flame. Let everything cool to room temperature. Add salt. Grind until smooth paste.
